Post, Abutment & Restoration

Dental implants we use in the NYC implants center have three main components: the implant post or screw, the abutment, and the tooth restoration.
The Implant Post
The implant post is inserted directly into the jawbone during a minor surgical procedure. The post is shaped to closely replicate the shape of a natural tooth root and maybe tapered towards its end.
Dental implant posts come in various shapes and sizes. Dr. Rahmani selects the size of the replacement tooth according to the implant system. The actual post is hollow to allow the abutment to be screwed into the post.
The Abutment
The abutment screws into the implant post and is attached in preparation for the implant tooth. The abutment supports the implant tooth. Its functional design depends on the final restoration.
Abutments used to support single crowns or bridges look like little stubby teeth protruding just above the gum line. Abutments used to support dentures are pretty different as the denture clips onto the abutment, or the abutments may have a special bar attached that will support new teeth or denture in a day.
The Implant Restoration
Implant restoration can be a crown, bridge, or implant-supported denture. Regardless of the restoration used, it will completely cover up the dental implant underneath, so only your new tooth will be visible.
Although single tooth implants have three separate parts, some implants are fabricated as a single structure, consisting of the implant post and the abutment.
